Everyday activity….It all counts!

Engaging any physical activity, whether it’s a brisk walk in the park, a yoga session at home, or going your everyday household activities, contributes positively to your overall health and well-being. From improving cardiovascular health and strengthening muscles to boosting mental well-being and reducing stress, every bit of movement you incorporate into your daily routine makes a difference. Try to find something you like, so you are more likely continue to engage in the activity for a longer time. So, keep moving, stay active, and embrace the benefits that physical activity brings to your life every day.

What is physical activity and sedentary behavior?

Physical activity refers to any movement that requires energy expenditure, such as walking, running, swimming, or dancing. Engaging in regular physical activity has numerous health benefits, including improving cardiovascular health, strengthening muscles and bones, and boosting mood and mental well-being.

On the other hand, sedentary behavior refers to activities that involve very little physical movement, such as sitting or lying down for extended periods. Prolonged sedentary behavior can have negative effects on health, including an increased risk of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.

It is important to strike a balance between physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior to maintain overall health and well-being. Incorporating more movement into your daily routine, such as taking short walks, standing up regularly, or participating in exercise classes, can help combat the negative effects of prolonged sitting. Remember, small changes can make a big difference in your overall health and quality of life.

What are some ways to break up too much sitting? However, remember everyone needs to rest sometime. Also, there are times when sitting and enjoying a meal or visiting with someone is important.

  • Start slowly and get up during TV commercials
  • If playing a boardgame, stand up or stretch between games.
  • Set a timer to stand up every hour when you need to sit for a long period of time
